Data Scientist
We’re building a world-class team to redefine knowledge work with AI
Zeno is a legal AI startup building a platform that helps lawyers research, review, and draft documents with real legal reasoning — not just text prediction. We’re developing technology that can:
- Search and retrieve statutes, case law, and commentary with high precision.
- Reason step-by-step, applying legal tests and weighing precedents.
- Explain every answer transparently, so lawyers can trace conclusions back to the exact sources.
Where most tools automate surface-level tasks, we’re focused on replicating the way lawyers actually think through legal problems, making depth and trust the foundation of everything we build.
You’re joining an early-stage startup that is already working with leading firms. Backed with €3M in seed funding, we’re now scaling a team of engineers and thinkers who want to solve real problems, drive innovation, and create lasting change in the legal sector.
The role
As a Data Scientist at Zeno, you’ll work at the intersection of AI, legal data, and product innovation. You’ll help us structure, analyze, and learn from complex legal datasets to unlock the next generation of intelligent tools for legal professionals.
This role is pivotal to turning messy, high-value legal information into usable foundations for our AI systems. You’ll collaborate with engineers, researchers, and product leaders to build pipelines, design evaluation methods, and extract insights that make our assistant smarter, more accurate, and more reliable.
This is a rare opportunity to shape how data science and AI come together to transform one of the most knowledge-intensive professions.
What you’ll work on
- Design and implement data pipelines that prepare and structure legal text for training and evaluation.
- Build and deploy machine learning models into production, ensuring scalability, robustness, and performance.
- Explore and analyze large legal datasets to uncover patterns, insights, and opportunities for improvement.
- Build benchmarks, metrics, and evaluation frameworks to measure model performance in real-world legal tasks.
- Collaborate with applied researchers and engineers to improve data quality, retrieval, and model outputs.
- Experiment with approaches such as data augmentation, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and knowledge graphs.
- Contribute to making our systems more robust, interpretable, and aligned with legal reasoning.
What we’re looking for
- 3–6 years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or ML engineering (ideally in a startup or product-focused environment).
- Proven ability to build and ship ML models into production (not just notebooks or prototypes).
- Strong engineering mindset with experience in software development best practices, version control, testing, and deployment.
- Deep skills in data wrangling, analysis, and building evaluation frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with NLP and large text datasets.
- Familiarity with text-heavy data, knowledge graphs, or RAG pipelines is a strong plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively across product, technical, and domain-specific teams.
- Curiosity and drive to explore how AI and data can reshape the foundations of legal work.
The ride from startup to scale-up
Things will break, priorities will shift, and there won’t always be a playbook. You’ll wear multiple hats, ship fast, and learn faster. Some weeks will feel chaotic, some problems will feel bigger than your role. That’s the nature of the ride from startup to scale-up: if you need stability and structure, this won’t fit. But if you thrive on ownership, speed, and building from zero, you’ll love it here.
