We’re building a world-class team to redefine knowledge work with AI
Zeno is a legal AI startup reshaping how legal professionals work. We’re building a smart, assistive platform into legal workflows where it can do the most good.
Our technology amplifies legal expertise by freeing professionals to focus where they create the most value. We reduce friction, eliminate repetition, and automate shallow tasks so there is more time for deep thinking and better outcomes.
We’re in the early stages of building something impressive. With our seed funding secured and market traction validated, we’re growing a team of engineers and thinkers who want to solve real problems and drive innovation and create lasting change in the legal sector.
The role
As an Applied Legal Researcher, you’ll help define how complex legal reasoning can be modeled, evaluated, and eventually automated through AI systems. This role sits at the heart of our research and product efforts. You’ll collaborate with our technical team to translate legal tasks into structured problems, evaluate model behavior, and experiment with new approaches to build smarter, more reliable systems.
This is a rare opportunity to work at the cutting edge of AI while bringing a critical real-world domain into the future.
What you’ll focus on
- Design and execute research projects that explore how AI can assist with advanced legal reasoning and document workflows.
- Break down complex legal tasks into machine-interpretable components for prompt design, task decomposition, and model evaluation.
- Collaborate with engineers and ML researchers to prototype, refine, and test AI-driven legal tools.
- Build datasets, write evaluation benchmarks, and analyze model performance with a mix of qualitative and quantitative approaches.
- Contribute to the design of intelligent systems that are robust, explainable, and useful in real legal environments.
What we’re looking for
- 2–5 years of experience in AI product development or applied AI research, ideally in a startup or research-heavy environment.
- Strong understanding of prompt design, model behavior, and evaluation techniques.
- Hands-on experience or familiarity with legal NLP, knowledge graphs, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Ability to communicate effectively across legal, product, and technical domains.
- Willingness to dive deep into real-world complexity, from reviewing generations to restructuring workflows.
- Curiosity and drive to explore how AI can transform legal work at a foundational level.
What we offer
- A unique opportunity to work at a startup that is shaping the future of legal tech.
- The ability to make a direct and tangible impact on the development and growth of our platform.
- An inspiring place to work in an office located at the heart of Rotterdam.
- Collaboration with a top-tier team of engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
- Competitive compensation, including growth and equity opportunities within the company.
